Why choose me to photograph your wedding?

There are lots of wedding photographers in the world. If you want slick, traditional results, such as leather-bound, gilt-edged albums or a fixed number of prints of posed photos taken with artificial lighting, I am not your man. Similarly, if you want a single photographic service to shoot both still photos and video, you will be best served by others. If, however, you want a personal, candid record of your wedding and the people in it, delivered as a large number of digital images that you can print, post, or distribute as you like, read on.

I take a lot of shots at a wedding, and I don't believe in holding the results hostage by charging you for each one that I deliver—or charging you for the time and effort it would take me to get prints made for you. Instead, I give you high-resolution digital files of all images that I deem worthy, allowing you to do whatever you want with them. Though I cannot predict exactly how many images I will deliver, it will generally be more than you would get in the "packages" that most wedding photographers offer. I am very selective and careful to give you only the best of what I shoot, but because I shoot a lot, even my selective weeding will typically produce a large number of good images. And if you want multiple prints of any given photo or digital copies to post on the web or send to people by e-mail or on a disk, you will have the files and not need to pay extra for what you have already purchased.

I devote a lot of effort to preparing for, shooting, and processing the results of a wedding. This includes meeting with you as often as necessary beforehand to understand your priorities and desires and to develop a joint photographic vision for the event. If possible, I will visit the wedding venue in advance to get a visual feel for it and to plan logistics; and of course, I will spend however long I need to shooting the actual event. Afterwards, my real work begins: it may take me four to six months to weed through, adjust, and organize the images that I will deliver to you.

As noted, I do not generally deliver prints, but rather give you high-resolution digital image files that you can use however you like (I can get high-quality prints made for you, if you like, for an extra fee, but I prefer to recommend where you can get them made yourself, to save you paying me as a middleman).

Why the delay?

My long post-wedding processing period is important: it allows me to choose and process the best photos, and it gives me some distance from the event itself, which helps provide the perspective needed to pick out the most successful images. I will make every effort to deliver a set of a dozen or so "preview" shots within six weeks, which you can use in thank-you notes, etc., until you receive the full set.

Pricing

My price to shoot a wedding varies, depending on the size, location and complexity of the event, the required logistics, and a number of other factors. However, I believe you will find my rates competitive. My initial consultation with you is of course free, after which I will quote a price for the entire process. An initial non-refundable deposit of $500 will secure the date and pay for any further consultations, meetings, and preparations; the balance must be paid in full by one month before the wedding date but will be refundable until I actually shoot.
